Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought!

Today, just one day after my Kindle Countdown deal came to an end and one month since release, I finally unlocked the magical “Also Bought” list for Blood Toy!  After a few moments of self-congratulatory profanity, I was surprised to find seven books whose subject matter ranged from fae to demons to angels, but none, so far as I can tell, with the kind of dark erotica, vampire, or even horror content I would have expected Blood Toy readers to favor! Admittedly, I have not yet read any of these titles myself, so I could be wrong.  A quick skim through the synopsis of the books certainly revealed common themes of kick*ss female protagonists, grit, dark humor and sexual tension.  I think Blood Toy may have the most warning labels in the bunch though:)

So if you enjoyed Blood Toy and are looking for a new book to add to your Kindle, you may enjoy one of these titles:

And if you are a fan of any of these authors/series, check out Blood Toy now.  Kindle Unlimited subscribers read for free!

Last Call for Countdown Deal and The Next Big Thing!

I am one of those people that gets depressed at the end of a vacation, unless I have a package waiting for me when I get back or another excursion planned for the near future.  My husband never looks forward to anything, reasoning he cannot be disappointed when plans fall through if he was not excited about them in the first place.  When we got married (more than 12 years ago), he did not express any excitement about our honeymoon until the cruise ship was leaving the dock.  I had been counting down the days for months.  For me, 90% of the fun is the anticipation.

As it relates to my journey to become a published author, that means the anticipation of my first review (and let’s face it every single one after it), the anticipation of holding a proof copy in my hands, of launch day, of my first Kindle Countdown deal.  And as this Countdown comes to a close over the next nine hours…feeling the depression that comes with seeing it end.

That’s why I just scheduled my first Kindle Countdown on for August 14th!  Two more weeks until my friends across the pond can snag Blood Toy for 99 cents too:)  For the rest of you, last call to get the deal on

Kindle Countdown for Blood Toy Ends Tomorrow!

Wow, time flies! My first ever Kindle Countdown deal is ending in 28 hours.  So I did some number crunching tonight to see how it’s going.  In the last six days, I have 1) sold as many Kindle editions and 2) generated half as many Kindle Edition Normalized Pages Read as in the 25 days prior to the sale (including pre-orders).  I also ranked as high as #186 in the Dark Fantasy sub-genre of Horror.  While I did make it on the top 100 Best Seller list of Erotic Horror not long after launch (and on the same page as Laurell K. Hamilton no less), I believe the Dark Fantasy genre is ultimately a better fit for me–despite Blood Toy’s admittedly violent sexual content–so the higher ranking in this category is a big win to me.  Off-hand, I know half a dozen promo sites included Blood Toy in their bargain deal e-mail blasts.  Considering all these cost me was the time it took to submit details about my deal, I would definitely consider those a worthwhile investment.

While I am not quitting my day job any time soon, I believe Blood Toy is off to a great start with respectable sales figures. The Kindle Unlimited program has increased my exposure by at least 50%.  It is hard to say for sure since I can only see the number of pages read vs. the number of units downloaded, however if I divide the number of pages read by the number of pages in the book, I get a number that equates to half of my total sales.  I don’t think I would have sold as many copies on other venues (B&N, iTunes, etc.) so I will definitely be re-enrolling in KU to take advantage of Kindle Unlimited and Kindle Countdown next quarter!

If you haven’t gotten your copy of Blood Toy yet for 99 cents, last chance!

Hilarious But Appropriate Bookshelves on

On, readers can create custom bookshelves and add a book to as many as they like.  Out of curiosity, I had a look-see at where Blood Toy is currently shelved.  Besides the ones where I expected to find it—to-read (366 people yay!), urban fantasy, dark fantasy, vampires, etc.—it has been added to these hilarious but aptly named gems:Screen Shot 2015-05-20 at 5.56.03 PM

And my personal favorite: does-not-reflect-my-taste-in-men!

Just three days left to snag the Kindle Edition of Blood Toy for just 99 cents!

Blood Toy’s Latest Review!

I don’t know if I have said enough how much I love my reviewers!  Every review so far, whether three or five stars, has been thoughtfully crafted with tons of quote-able goodness.  “This is a dark urban fantasy with a bit of spin that hits you like a backhand at times.”  I am sure there will come a time, when Blood Toy is more well-read, that I am not as enamored of the review process, but for now, go check out Courtney Well’s 4 star review of Blood Toy on Goodreads!  The reading progress comments are pretty funny too.

My Dog Ate My Blog!

I have been slacking on my blogs this week, and tonight will be no exception, except that I am actually going to write one.   Which I haven’t done in a few days.  Resolution…broken.

I have a good excuse for why there have been no blogs.  Didn’t you read the title?  My dog ate them.  Not really, but I did lose the folder with all of my raw teaser files in it.  I have the ones I made up to this point, but I can’t play with them anymore.  I have decided this is the universe telling me:

a) I don’t need to create any more teasers.  These are perfect.

b) I need a totally different model for Desollador because apparently my readers don’t see this guy when they ‘see’ him (I don’t exactly either but he’s as close as I could find at the time, plus he’s dark…and hot.)

c) Sh*t happens.  I need to quit whining and just re-build the files.

Come to think of it, I haven’t actually decided anything.  I’ve just been whining for a couple of days.  I picked a terrible week to slack, because I actually have a Kindle Countdown Deal starting tomorrow, Friday Jul 24 at 12am!!!  So if you haven’t picked up your copy of Blood Toy, now’s the time.

But that’s not even why I decided to blog today.  I did it because the longer you go without sticking to a commitment, the harder it is to get back on the wagon.  It is a miracle I ever quit smoking (nearly ten years ago).  And because my KDP dashboard showed nearly 500 pages of Blood Toy have been read so far today.  Go me!  Life is good when you’re selling:)
